Abstract
The principal issues related to programs of supplementary feeding concern: (1) the desirability, timing, and nature of weaning foods to complement breast milk; (2) the usefulness, or lack of it, of supplementary feeding programs for older preschool children and for school children; (3) the value of supplementary feeding programs for pregnant and lactating women; (4) the role of supplementary feeding programs for adult workers; and (5) the identification of methods of supplementary feeding that will reach target groups however they are designated. This paper will concentrate mainly on the issues involved in supplementary feeding of the preschool child during and following the weaning period.
