Various Autoradiographic Methods as a Tool in Cell Growth Studies

Abstract

In studies in the field of cell biology the autoradiographic method demonstrates radioactivity in tissues and cells by means of a photographic emulsion. The biological specimens, histological sections, smears of cells or squashes of tissue, are covered with a particularly sensitive photographic emulsion. After the appropriate exposure time and photographic development silver grains are found in the emulsion above those cells or cell structures which are radioactively labeled (for the autoradiographic technique see Schultze, 1969; Amlacher, 1974; Rogers, 1979).
