Abstract

Considered broadly synaptic transmission involves a series of molecular events starting with the synthesis of neurotransmitter and ending with the modification of the activity of the post-synaptic cell. Knowledge of the detail of the component processes is patchy and is clearly complicated by the diversity of the molecules now known to function as neurotransmitters.
