Abstract
The science of hydrology concerns the properties and distribution of water and snow, including such facets as tracing groundwater, sediment, and surface-water movement. Hydrological techniques utilizing radionuclides are rather well established. Two excellent bibliographies on the subject have been published [International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), 1968e, 1973e]. In addition, the IAEA (1966c) has published a guide to safe use of radionuclides in hydrology. This publication contains a description of techniques used in various countries (Table 9). Readers interested in applications to sediment transport and water movement in the sea are urged to read the excellent paper by Duursma (1972).
