Abstract
In Japan we have two government projects for the resolution of the energy problem. The Sunshine Project was started in 1974. The purpose of this project is to develop production technology for new energy sources such as solar, geothermal, coal gasification and liquefaction, and utilization of hydrogen for energy storage. Meanwhile, to promote energy conservation technology, the Moonlight Project was started in 1978. The main tasks of this project are the trial manufacturing of prototype plants with high temperature and high efficiency gas turbine and MHD power generation systems together with the development of advanced materials and production technologies.
