Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the higher dose commitment of cyclotron target handlers as compared to other radiation workers. Target handling technical details have not been described since they would detract from the main concern, which is the human factor of personnel exposure. Instead, characteristic reasons for high personnel exposure are presented along with suggested methods for reducing these exposures. Dose commitment trends at NENC are presented to show the impact of implementing suggested improvements. This discussion is intended to be of general interest and is illustrated by examples of operating experiences using three thirty-inch commercial isotope production cyclotrons.
