Abstract

Several distinct clinical syndromes may be produced by the secretion of excess adrenal cortical hormones. Excessive production of the principal mineralocorticoid, aldosterone, results in clinical and chemical signs of aldosteronism, and adrenal virilism may result from excessive production of adrenal androgens. Neuropsychiatric changes are most prominently associated with an excess of the principal glucocorticoid, cortisol.
