Abstract

The infrared absorption spectrum of powders has already been discussed elsewhere, and examined along different lines of approximation. We have solved exactly Maxwell’s equations for an arbitrary distribution of spherules to all 2t polar orders. We present here the dipolar and quadrupolar effects on the infrared absorption spectrum of ionic (NiO) simple systems, in the long wavelength limit approximation, when the spherule dielectric constant has a simple theoretical form. Square and tetrahedron clusters are used for illustration.
