Measurement of Luttinger Parameters of the Valence Band of ZnSe by Resonant Brillouin Scattering

Abstract

We report the experimental observation of heavy and light excitons by resonant Brillouin scattering of exciton polaritons in ZnSe in the (100), (110) and (111) directions. Using the three branch polariton model, which is needed in the case of a degenerate valence band, we fit the experimental Brillouin curves and obtain the values of the masses of the two kinds of excitons. The Luttinger parameters of the valence band are then deduced.
