Critical Behaviour Near the Conductor-Insulator Transition in Disordered Solids: A Mode-Coupling Theory

  • Chapter
Recent Developments in Condensed Matter Physics

Abstract

The mode-coupling approach is employed for the investigation of the critical behaviour near the Anderson conductor-insulator transition. Critical exponents for the d.c. conductivity s as well as the localization length ν are determined for the model of noninteracting electrons in disordered lattice. Marginal dimensionalities appear to be d = 2 below which no transition exists and d = 4 above which s = 1 and ν = 1/2. For 2 < d < 4 we get s = 1 and ν = 1/(d-2). In addition, we show that for parabolic bands and d ≥ 6 the transition cannot always be reached by lowering the Fermi energy.
