Abstract
The nonmetal-metal transition in K0.30MoO3 has been studied by electrical conductivity, thermopower, magnetic susceptibility and calorimetric measurements. The conductivity and the thermopower are found to be strongly anisotropic in the high temperature phase. These results are discussed in terms of a one-dimensional band structure. At low temperatures, the transport properties are shown to be extrinsic, the carriers being possibly polarons. This could account for the sharp peak found in the thermopower at 38 K.
