Abstract

The family’s level of development would appear to influence the therapist’s approach. With families who have younger children, you might have to use a different approach than if you have a family with older adolescents. If you have families who are, for example, concrete operational in their thinking capacity, but are not formal operational, would you use one approach versus another? In other words, would the level of cognitive development of the family influence your choice of theoretical perspectives or treatment approaches?
