Are D and DR Two Distinct Entities?

  • Chapter
Current Trends in Histocompatibility

Abstract

It is only recently that the human HLA-D locus has been recognized and analyzed. Bach and Amos (1967) and Yunis and Amos (1971) were the first to explain the “abnormal” mixed-lymphocyte reaction (MLR) between HLA-identical siblings by the existence of recombination between the classic A and B HLA loci and a “new” locus now called HLA-D.
