Abstract

In the framework of asymptotic free (AF) field theories (mainly \(\phi _6^3\))we expose by simple examples the arbitrariness of perturbative parton cross sections due to the ultraviolet (UV), mass (M) and the infrared (IR) divergences and their regularisation. Establishing a one-to-one correspondence between the renormalization group (RG) approach and the Feynman diagram calculations we gain insight into the importance of M-factorization to arrive at unique AF-predictions. We give details of the parton cross sections for deep-inelastic (DI) scattering and Drell-Yan (DY) massive lepton-pair production.
