Abstract

Numerous pathomechanisms have been proposed as relevant in periodontal disease (1). The T-cell triggered effector systems have been especially emphasized as the most important mediators of this particular chronic inflammation (2–4). It was therefore tempting to investigate whether T-cell suppression by a suitable antilymphocytic agent had a major influence on the establishment and progression of the disease.
