Abstract
Krogh and Lindhard were the first who measured and described oxygen debt (R) and oxygen deficit (D) in 1913–1914. The theory of oxygen debt developed by Furusawa, Hill, Long and Lupton (1924–1925) based upon an observation that the oxygen uptake during recovery is higher than that in rest before exercise. The possible relationship between the increased O2 consumption in recovery and the anaerobic processes during exercise was at that time suggested.
