Abstract
No specific functions have been found for most of the great variety of complex lipids, including the gangliosides. These last compounds, at a concentration of 3 per thousand in gray matter are, in this part of the nervous tissue about twice as concentrated as in white matter and at least ten fold higher than in any other tissue of extra-neural origin.
