Abstract

In the framework of an outline of the mechanism of protein synthesis the following topics were discussed more extensively: 1) Specificity in peptide chain initiation and the problem of translational control. 2) GTP cleavage as promoted by elongation factors Tu and G and the role of particular ribosomal proteins. 3) Protein synthesis and the stringent control of RNA synthesis and other processes by amino acids. 4) The interferon defense mechanism.
