Abstract

Previous data from our laboratory have suggested the hypothesis that injury to the arterial wall precedes experimental arterial lesions which closely mimic human atherosclerosis. In order to test this hypothesis we attempted to injure the rat aorta by injections of rabbit antiserum antirat aorta (Scebat et al., 1964a). We found that injections of rat aorta homogenates led to a generalized arteriosclerosis in sensitized rabbits (Scebat et al., 1964b). This finding prompted us to further investigations, the results of which are the subject of this report.
