Abstract

Considerable effort is being spent in our laboratory, to collect some direct evidences of participation of the kinin system in some models of the acute inflammatory reaction. In this work we have the collaboration of many colleagues (2), who should be considered co-workers of this review. Some of them are attending this Symposium and will present their own papers. My task is to present in a condensed form the many evidences we have now of the participation of kinins in the swelling produced in the rat’s paw by moderate heat (45°C), sulfated polymers, such as cellulose sulphate, SN-263, polyvinyl sulfate, polyethylene sulfate, as well as that produced by the well know inflammatogens, carragenin and dextran sulfate. In previous reviews, we have adduced evidences in favor of the participation of the kinin system in shocks produced by prteases, such as trypsin, pronase and nagarse (Rocha e Silva, 1969; Rocha e Silva et al., 1967, 69b).
