Plasma Kininogen Level in Myocardial Infarction

  • Chapter
Bradykinin and Related Kinins

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 8))

Abstract

Damaged tissue is an important reason for the release of kinins in pathophysiological conditions. During myocardial infarction kininogenolytic enzymes may be activated and liberated in the damaged heart muscle cells. Sicuteri et al. (1966) suggested that kinins released in this way probably play a role in shock and pain associated with myocardial infarction. They assayed the plasma kininogen content in patients with myocardial infarction and found a significant decrease of kininogen in the first days of infarction (Sicuteri et al., 1967).
