The Occurrence in Plasma of a Protein with Kinin-Like Activity
- 48 Downloads
Over the past two to three years we have been using a perfused isolated vein removed from the rabbit ear as an assay for kinins.1 We found that this particular preparation is markedly sensitive to kinins (Fig. 1) and some respond to doses of kinins as low as 10pg. Responses to 500pg injected into the perfusion stream are commonplace. It was during the course of investigating this preparation that we found that the injection of small doses of plasma into the perfusion stream led to venoconstrictor responses similar to those found with kinins (Fig. 2). The significance of this finding was heightened by the fact that so few other agonists are able to cause venoconstriction at doses which may be expected to be present in plasma.
