Abstract
Mecillinam (FL.1060, Leo Laboratories; 6B-(hexahydro-1Hazepin-l-yl)-methyleneamino-penicillanic acid) is a new class of semi-synthetic penicillin derivatives characterised by the presence of a 6B-amidino substitution in the penicillanic acid nucleus. Preliminary studies indicated a high degree of activity against Gram negative bacteria (Lund and Tybring, 1972). It was decided therefore to assess the activity of mecillinam in the laboratory particularly with a view to its use in infections of the urinary tract.
