Summary

The biotransformation of cephalothin(CET) and rifampicin(RFP) in the animals and the patients with and without liver impairment was studied by the thin layer chromatography (TLC) and bioautogra-phy. The transformation (CET to desacetyl CET, RFP to desacetyl RFP) decreased in the damaged liver by CCl4 injection of animals (rat and guinea pig) in vitro and in vivo. But there was no significant difference in the ratio of antibiotics to its metabolite in the urine of the patients with and without liver impairment. From these results, it is supposed that the antibiotics metabolizing activity in the liver of the patients with liver impairment may be decreased, but there may be the compensation by the other organ. And it may be speculated that there are considerable variations of the antibiotics metabolizing activities according to the nature and the stages of the liver diseases.
