Abstract
Many large scale industrial applications of superconductivity have been proposed. These can be classified in various ways; for example, one could categorize applications in terms of the superconductors characteristic behavior, i.e., Type 1, Type 2, ac, dc, etc. Perhaps the most useful classification, however, is in terms of end use. Table 1 lists the major applications presently visualized as to end use, together with an estimate of the date such applications could make a significant commercial impact. There are, of course, many other possible industrial applications: instruments, computers, electron microscopes, etc. These applications will probably be significantly less important in terms of overall use and economic impact.
