Variation of the Electron—Phonon Interaction Strength in Superconducting LaIn3−xSn x

  • Chapter
Low Temperature Physics-LT 13

Abstract

The superconducting transition temperature T c , the magnetic susceptibility, and the thermoelectric power of a large number of pseudobinary alloys with the Cu3Au structure show an oscillatory variation with the number of valence electrons.1 These results have been explained by Brillouin zone effects causing, in addition to variations in the electronic density of states N (0), variations in the electron—phonon interaction strength V Ph.1 Toxen and Gambino2 performed measurements of the specific heat in the system LaIn3− x Sn x . For the composition range 2.5 ≤ x ≤ 3 they also measured T c and found that V Ph remained constant. They concluded that changes in T c are mainly caused by changes in N(0). From transport property measurements Grobman3 concluded that these compounds possess neither local moments nor magnetic phase transitions.
