Inorganic Amorphous Solids and Glass-Ceramic Materials

  • Chapter
Treatise on Solid State Chemistry

Abstract

A liquid can solidify in either of two ways: It can form a crystalline solid, in which the molecules are regularly arranged on a lattice; or it can form an amorphous solid, called a glass, in which the molecular array is characterized by the absence of long-range order.
