Abstract

A zero energy nuclear reactor may “be defined as one in which the thermal effects of fission have a negligible effect on the reactor’s behaviour. Such reactors are used as research and instructional tools. They are also relevant to control problems with power producing reactors because these behave in the zero-energy mode when starting up and their dynamic operation is fundamentally affected by their zero-energy component.
