Abstract
Most traditional sex therapy emphasize anxiety reduction but neglect sex drive. My general approach in an experimental study in 1973 was to stimulate the appetites of sexually dysfunctional patients by any method that was socially acceptable. Pictures of heterosexual sexual activity, as are commonly circulated in London were shown. Stories taken from books as Memoirs of the Life of Fanny Hill by John Cleland or Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence and current literature magazines were read by the patients. A tape recording called “Japanese Sounds of Sex,” in which women vocalize the ecstasy of orgasms, was played to the patients. In addition erotic films were recommended, e.g. “Belle de Jour,” “Danish Blue,” “Quiet Days in Clichy.” Stimulating music as Indians evening ragas, Reggae, Ravel’s Bolero was recommended to accompany sexual play. Patients were encouraged to discuss and explore their erotic fantasies and masturbatory techniques, and also encouraged to practice oral sex at home. Patients were seen conjointly once a week and treated individually using a battery of methods to increase sexual stimulation. In addition to those techniques previously mentioned Systematic Desensitization and a modified Masters and Johnson treatment program were used (Gillan, 1973).
