Abstract
Representatives of many groups of protozoa have associations with insects. These associations range from phoresis to obligate parasitism, often with host debilitation or mortality as the final result. Some symbiotic protozoa found in the gut of insects (e.g., termites, wood roaches) are important for the well-being of their bearer, and others, seemingly innocuous for their insect vectors, cause serious diseases in man and domestic animals.
