The Bride of Christ Is Filled With His Spirit

  • Chapter
Women in Ritual and Symbolic Roles

Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to examine female imagery as it is interpreted in a particular Bible-centered Protestant tradition, the pentecostal churches of Edinburgh, Scotland.* My intention is to throw light on some general characteristics of female imagery, some particular aspects of Christian female imagery, and a specific case of pentecostal female imagery which de-emphasizes motherhood and virginity.
