Abstract
The chapters in this volume are typical of the current therapeutic approach in American psychiatry. Treatment is pluralistic, and the theoretical approach eclectic. Practitioners mix drug treatment with various kinds of psychotherapy—cognitive, psychoanalytic, or behavioral; group or family. Occasionally electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is prescribed.
