Abstract
The social and personality psychology methods used in the recent study of a “fear of success” (FOS) rely on three major approaches typical to the behavioral sciences. The first is the nomothetic approach, that is, studying human behavior by comparing the average behavior of one group (naturally occurring or experimentally created) with the average behavior of another group. The individual is not important at this stage, and may never become the unit of analysis in the scientists’ search for universals of human behavior.
