Abstract

Ecology is concerned with the interrelations between living organisms and their environments, systematically exploring and determining the complex interacting systems upon which the organisms1 survival depend. Human Ecology extends such studies to include the welfare and activities of man. The power and extent of human intervention in the environment is clearly of greater magnitude and complexity than that of other organisms. This power offers wide possibilities of using the environment favourably for human habitation: it also raises great dangers of environmental damage which could weaken and ultimately destroy the life support systems of human society.
