Abstract
After the introduction of the permanent arteriovenous shunt in 1960 by Scribner and his associates.1 maintenance hemodialysis became a practical possibility for the long-term care of patients with terminal renal disease. Since then, many investigators have reported behavioral and psychologic observations in such patients2-12 and have formed hypotheses based on their observations.
