Abstract
The use of electromagnetically driven imploding liner flux compression techniques coupled with high energy inertial-inductive storage systems is investigated theoretically. Basic flux compression generator operation is reviewed and two techniques are discussed for obtaining high power, high energy electrical pulses. Power levels of several terawatts, involving tens and hundreds of megajoules of electrical energy in a few microseconds appear possible with overall efficiencies of 7–10%.
