Abstract

This paper reports on studies of the correlations of measures of affect, plasma corticoids (PC) and free fatty acids (FFA) in hypnotic state, while specific hypnotic instructions were given, and during anticipation of repetition of the experimental procedure. Under these experimental conditions the following specific interactions could be examined:

  1. 1.

The relative magnitude and temporal sequence of PC and FFA changes.

  2. 2.

The relationship of PC to the lipid mobilization of emotional stress (Cleghorn et al. 1972, Pinter et al. 1967a) as compared with the established role of catecholamines and the beta adrenergic receptors (Cleghorn et al. 1969, Pinter and Pattee 1967, Pinter et al. 1967b).

  3. 3.

The relationship of measures of verbal anxiety and hostility to PC and FFA changes.
