Abstract

It has been shown in physiological experiments that certain peripheral stimuli affecting the hypothalamo-pituitary system reach the hypothalamus through neural pathways. Among others the neural stress pathways are of significance (Ganong 1970), the interruption of which, at the border between the mesencephalon and diencephalon (Halász and Gorski 1967, Makara et. al 1972) prevents ACTH release in response to certain stresses. Numerous authors have described fibre systems ascending from the brainstem (see the text) their hypothalamic ermmation, however, has not been convincingly elucidated (Raisman 1970).
