Abstract
Synthetic TSH-releasing factor (TRF) is by definition not contaminated with other releasing factors and acts quite specifically on its target cells, i.e. on anterior pituitary thyrotrophs. It seems, however, reasonable to make the assumption that the endocrine system, taken as a whole, may be affected in one way or another, when a very potent endocrinologically active substance like TRF modifies its equilibrium. The dynamics of TSH secretion (release and synthesis) under the influence of TRF have been recently studied in detail in our laboratory; experiments have now been performed in order to evaluate the possible actions of TRF on the pituitary-adrenocortical axis. A number of synthetic TRF analogues have also been included in this study. Their utilization proved very useful in elucidating the mode of action of TRF on both the pituitary-thyroid and the pituitary-adrenal axis.
