Abstract
I did some work for EPA under Contract EHS-70–125 while employed at Paxve Incorporated, Newport Beach, California on the effect of a vapor generator or a steam boiler on emissions from a burner. We made measurements over a wide range of fuel-air ratios from lean blowout to rich blowout and over a range of air flows of more than 10 to 1. When we made measurements downstream of a vapor generator, we could not detect any hydrocarbons. Measurements made from the burner exhaust showed values ranging from about less than 0.1 ppm to about 100 ppm or more as we approached lean blowout. The point here is that the hydrocarbons apparently burned out going through the vapor generator.
