Adapting Hologram Interferometry to Industrial Conditions

Abstract

In 1967 a “Laser research group” was formed at the division of Production Engineering, Royal institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. The aims of the group was to study, adapt and develop methods using the laser in industrial applications. The work was very soon split into two categories: Machining and measurement. Measurement was split into: Aligment, surface inspection, ordinary laser interferometry and hologram interferometry. Hologram inter-ferometry was used for the measurement of dimension, deformation and vibration. It was soon found that the methods described in the literature were not always sufficient for the practical problems the group had to face as it offered hologram service to the Swedish industry.
