Equilibrium and Kinetic Aspects of the Reaction of Hemoglobin, Isolated Chains and Intermediates with Oxygen

  • Chapter

Abstract

One of the major recent developments in understanding hemoglobin function is represented by the preparation and study of the isolated subunits of the protein, i.e. the α and β chains, and of compounds which contain both α and β chains, but in which only one type of chain may undergo reaction with ligand. The latter ones may be regarded as artificially produced stable intermediates of the reaction of hemoglobin with ligands.
