The Material Aspects of Computor Storage

Abstract

Since a considerable portion of the research in solid state physics throughout the world has been motivated by the search for improved computer storage, it is reasonable to occasionally assess progress in this regard. It is my purpose to do so here. To give a feeling for the progress made, Figure 1 shows the original BINAC (1948) and Figure 2, a modern computer system (1967).
