Weak Interaction and Nuclear Structure

  • Conference paper
High-Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure

Abstract

The subjects of μ-mesic atoms and related dynamical effects will be discussed by those actively working in the field. The aim of this talk is to discuss on the subject of nuclear weak interaction which mu not be dealt with by others. Since 1966 when J.D. Walecka** gave a talk on the subject at the Williamsburg Conference, there has been little development on the theoretical side of the weak interaction reaction mechanism. It is probably safe to say that but for the many-body complication, the nuclear weak processes are well understood. However the many-body complication is precisely the nuclear physics, and is discussed below in connection with β-decay and μ-capture with the help of theoretical tools recently developed in both nuclear and particle physics.

Review talk given at the Third International Conference on High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure, Columbia University (10 September, 1969).
