Abstract
The diagrams of electrochemical equilibria such as those we have just examined are certainly useful for the study of different phenomena, but they generally provide only a partial resolution. Thermodynamics can tell whether a reaction may occur and often what the reaction will be, but the thermodynamic analysis does not tell how fast the reaction will occur. The question of how fast is the province of kinetics.
