Theory of Molecular Light Scattering in Condensed Isotropic Media and Gases

  • Chapter
Molecular Scattering of Light

Abstract

The application of classical statistical thermodynamics to the calculation of the light intensity scattered in condensed isotropic media leads to fundamental results which will be described below. The results of such a calculation are applicable if the mean free path of the molecules of the medium l is much shorter than the light wavelength λ / n in the medium.
