Determination of the Degree of Ionicity of the Bonds in Some Compounds of Phosphorus from the Shift of the \({{K}_{{{\alpha }_{1,2}}}}\) X-Ray Lines

  • Chapter

Abstract

The degree of ionicity of the bonds in some compounds of phosphorus with zinc and cadmium was determined from the relative shifts of the \({{K}_{{{\alpha }_{1,2}}}}\) lines of phosphorus in the x-ray spectra of AIP, GaP, InP, ZnP2, Zn3P2, CdP2, Cd3P2, and P2O5. This method for the determination of the degree of ionicityis judged in relation to the proposed scheme of bonding in AIIIBV semiconductors. The bond ionicities obtained were (in %): 30 for AIP, 20 for GaP and InP, 40 for ZnP2, Zn3P2, and CdP2, 20 for Cd3P2, and 50 for P2O5 (the error was 10%).
