Abstract
By superconductivity we mean a special physical state of certain pure metals and alloys in which the electrical resistance of the metal (or alloy) is zero. Materials in which the superconducting state is observed are called superconductors. The phenomenon of superconductivity was first found in 1911 by H. Kammerlingh-Onnes, who was studying the temperature dependence of the electrical resistance of mercury at temperatures close to absolute zero.
