The Kinetics of Adsorption, Ion Exchange, and Chemical Reaction in a Current

  • Chapter
Heterogeneous Processes of Geochemical Migration

Abstract

Since a current of solution is present during migration induced by filtration, to solve the problem of geochemical migration it is necessary to know the kinetic equations of adsorption, ion exchange, and chemical reactions in a current. Derivation of theoretical equations describing the kinetics of interaction between solutions and host rocks in a current is most complex when the process takes place in the intergranular-diffusion region, where the rate depends on the hydrodynamics of flow. We shall point out how these equations might be found on the basis of sorption (ion exchange) on the spherical grain of a mineral in laminar flow [1–2].
