Abstract
In attempting to explain the tectonic conditions for the appearance of any particular variety (but not type) of magma, we must base our conclusions on tectonic peculiarities of depth, since magmas cannot be generated near the surface. Correspondingly, we shall use the division into three types of region that we adopted in Chapter 4: geosynclinal, midocean ridge, and extrageosynclinal. The overall picture is shown in Table 3.
